Aurora Australis Wrapping Earth's Blue Limb (STS-45)
The aurora australis photographed from Space Shuttle Atlantis on STS-45 in spring 1992. A thin blue line of atmosphere arcs across the upper frame, wrapped in green aurora, with black space above and the night side of Earth below. Eight-tenths of the frame is black: a quiet image.

About this wallpaper
A Space Shuttle photograph from NASA's image library (s45-31-012, taken from Atlantis during STS-45, 24 March to 2 April 1992), cropped to 9:16 around Earth's limb. About a third of the way down, a thin blue line of atmosphere arcs across the frame, wrapped above and below in green aurora. The rest is black space with sparse stars and the night side of Earth; the crew observed and photographed aurorae throughout the nine-day mission. A public-domain NASA photograph.
On the home screen
The arc of light sits a third of the way down and the lower two thirds are nearly black, so icons at the bottom keep the arc visible.
On the lock screen
The very top is black and the clock reads well, though the blue arc passes just below it.
Colors and mood
Black space, a blue line of atmosphere and green aurora.
