Aurora Australis above Sunlit Clouds (STS-39)
The aurora australis shot from the flight deck of Space Shuttle Discovery on STS-39 in May 1991. The sunlit, cloud-covered Earth fills the lower half at a slant and green aurora rises along its edge, with black space above: a strong contrast between the bright bottom and dark top.

About this wallpaper
A Space Shuttle photograph from NASA's image library (S39-25-006, a 35mm frame taken during STS-39, 28 April to 6 May 1991), cropped to 9:16 around Earth's limb. The sunlit, cloud-covered Earth runs diagonally from lower left to upper right, and a band of green aurora rises along its edge, with black space above. Measuring the spectral and spatial characteristics of auroral emissions was one of the mission's objectives, and the crew photographed this glow while passing over the daylit side. A public-domain NASA photograph.
On the home screen
The lower half is bright white cloud, where icon labels get hard to read. Keep icons in the black upper part.
On the lock screen
The top is black space, so a white clock reads clearly.
Colors and mood
White cloud, a bluish Earth, green aurora and black space.
