The Sombrero Galaxy (M104), from Hubble
The Sombrero Galaxy, M104, imaged by Hubble: a dark lane of dust, like a hat's brim, circling the rim of a glowing white galaxy. Pure black above and below — it works on both the lock and home screens.

About this wallpaper
The Sombrero Galaxy mosaic released by ESA/Hubble (opo0328a, observed in 2003), cropped to 9:16 around the galaxy. The disc galaxy, seen edge-on, glows white in the center of the frame with a dark dust lane around its rim; above and below is black space with sparse stars, and about a tenth of the pixels are pure black. Licensed CC BY 4.0; credit NASA/ESA and The Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA).
On the home screen
The galaxy occupies only the central band; above and below is black. Icon labels read anywhere, and leaving the center clear keeps the galaxy visible.
On the lock screen
The top is black space, so a white clock reads clearly.
Colors and mood
Black, with the white and gray of the galaxy and the brown of the dust lane.
